I wonder if I should start putting my money under a mattress?

The Bailout
I have a friend, she and her family and friends live in the outskirts of Israel. The no man's land. Hardly any Arabs and hardly any Jews. There they make do for themselves. Building their own house, figuring out a piping system for themselves, scratching and saving and working odd jobs to afford a generator, etc etc. Sometimes I wonder, is that the direction we are headed...?

A few months ago I got a chance to work and spend Shabbat at Kefar Eldad where we stayed in settlement where all of the people there do for themselves. The community was half religious, half not religious and they worked together in a collective kind of way. It was a real interesting experience. I got a chance to help put down a irrigation system for olive trees, and we also fixed a temporary plumbing situation for several houses that lost their water supply. The people on the settlement work for themselves. It was a real moving experience, and I enjoyed. Probably because it was in the desert and I love the desert.
Black Diaspora spelled it out quite well in a previous post when he said, "When America sneezes, the rest of the world catch cold."
I believe we will see a more communal approach, rather than each person possessing some of the niceties of modern-day technology.
Rather than all of us owning washing machines and dryers (which sit around until the next wash day) they will be used by our neighbors during that time.
The machines will be placed in a common area, as we now see with laundry mats.
Extend that to other things we use just part of the day, automobiles, dishwashers, office space, auditoriums, and so on.
Already in Europe, for a fee, you can pick up a car when you need it, and leave it parked at your destination. Not necessary to go through an auto rental agency, going or coming.
I came across an online community for individual seeking interracial love. It is ++++((((---Blackwhitemeet. C O M))))++++ All singles there are seeking interracial relationships. Interracial is not a problem here, but a great merit to cherish!
hi Ehav - that is one interesting thing about Israel. There is always somewhere the opportunity to live on the ground. Like real living -building a house, figuring out pipe systems, basic things.
Heck, even knowing how to build a sukkah (?little hut)is important! lol
At some point, due to its expensiveness, we may have to leave Jerusalem. I often wonder where we'll be.
Hi Domino - I have to go and check out Black Diaspora's post.
It would be so nice if we could return to that. Forget pleasing and living off of greedy corporations. Coming together and helping one another. Well, I guess a balance would be nice.
There are so many families that I know who are struggling. I so wish we could live in a compound and have each one take turns taking care of the children, or cooking, etc. Life would be much more bearable.
Hi Sally - I am glad you found that site. I wish you much luck!
