An Outrage

.

How can we let this happen? A grown man socking a young girl. This is outrageous. But unfortunately, this seems to be a growing crisis in the black community. Everyone is calling for that man to be hunted down. I don't really know what the police will care to do.

However, positive messages are equally important as negative messages are. I think those girls -the one who defended the other girls who got cut in line AND and young girl who came to the first girl's aid when she got socked- should get a positive message. A virtual highfive, a mcdonalds certificate, money, something. Something to encourage BW to help and protect each other.

(hat tip= What About Our Daughters)

Note to self: I called Hyde Park's LAPD @ 213-485-4164, but they said nothing is set up for the victim and info on them is confidential. I'm not really a "professional" activist so not sure how to proceed...

I first saw this on MS-NBC. Here we have a grown man punching a young girl, because, we're told, she cursed him for jumping the line.

And it didn't matter to him that his children looked on while he did what he did.

I pity the kids and their mother. Can you imagine the terror of living in that house!

I believe that he will be caught: someone will recognize him. He's not the kind to keep a low profile. I'm sure he has lots of enemies.

And, it can't be soon enough!

In case you haven't heard, O.J. Simpson was found guilty of conspiracy to kidnap--twelve charges in all. Even if he receives the minimum sentence for each of the twelve charges, he could spend the rest of his life in jail.

The conviction came on the same day he was acquitted thirteen years ago. How's that for irony.

He's 61 years old.

Hi Domino,

re: O.J. What is wrong with him? Why couldn't he just lie low and accept that he got a gift by not ending up in prison the first time?

I think he had it coming.

re: the crazy man punching the girl.

Something has got to change for the better in the black community. Yes, it does seem like the kids deal with this often -especially the way the boy in the red shirt was trying to calm the father.

I wish I could send good vibes, positive encouragements to the girls.

Definately, a horrible thing to see. Yet, I wouldn't go as far as to say that this is something that is a problem in only the "black" community. I have spent the past 3 months finding videos on You Tube of similar violence from all over the world. I plan on blogging about roots of violence, in and in my searching you find this kind of thing EVERYWHERE. You look on You-Tube and everything that the black community is accused of, or are felt to be black problems can be found everywhere.

Violence like this has existed and exits all over the world. There are a number of "black" communities where things like this don't happen. Maybe the reality is that there is no such thing as a black community. Maybe, there are communities that exist, but a monolithic one. If there was it would easier to deal with these kinds of things, on a community level.

Ehav -I look forward to that post. No, that's putting it mildly. I am VERY interested in that post.
