The day we celebrate the receiving of the Torah. What makes it so significant (among many other things) :
(1) When we were to receive the Torah, according to the Torah, it state that the Jewish people answer, "N'ase, v'nishma!" Many non-Jewish sources think its an error and correct it in their books. But the N'ase v''Nishma means "we will do (N'ase) and we will hear (v'nishma)!" The crazy thing is how do you do before you hear? Ya gotta hear the instructions before you do them, right?
Nu? So, it comes to show how eager the people were to do His will. So eager that they would do whatever they knew then and will follow and do the rest as they hear it.
(2) This is the time when the story of Ruth is read. Many stay up all night learning the Torah.
(3) I wish I was in Jerusalem right about now. This is one of the "pilgramage time" there were three designated holidays when the Jews made the pilgramage to the Holy Temple. Now the Holy Temple is destroyed, but one outer wall remains. So, people go there. Its called the Western Wall, or the Wailing Wall.
