Former Muslim and his Thoughts
I wonder how do religious Jews feel when a see videos like this? Religious Jewish life has alot more in common with the religious Muslims than it does the Christians and the seculars -especially those Christians and seculars in the west.
Although they are constantly accused of this, when Jews enter a host country, there is no attempt at taking it over. The only land any religious Jew would want is the Land of Israel. Everything else is just seen as a partial example of the real prototype -which is Israel.
Now the secular Jews who are no longer feeling that they are bound by the Torah, I suppose I can't speak for them because I have no idea what's on their agenda. My guess would be to assimilate and thus the goal and values that the people of that host country holds will be their goals and values. If its money, then its money; if its honor, then honor will be pursued, etc.
So I feel like its a bit disengenuous for people to look at a successful Jewish business man and sneer at him for pursuing riches -even as most people from that country are probably doing the same -just not so successful maybe. And how come they are so successful?
I don't know. I do know this. when I left my parents home. I was so glad to have my freedom, so glad to be away from abuse, so enjoying each and every new day; I wasn't interested in clubbing for clubbing's sake. My intent was to assimilate into my new society. If I went to a bar, it was only because I wanted to do what everyone else was doing at my workplace. Thus, I saw the "act of clubbing" very differently than a co-worker who probably got on her best clubbing outfit and was looking for a new boyfriend at the club or looking to get really drunk or whatever people seek in clubs. I was more serious minded and aware of my surroundings and the psychology going on, etc. Its like I was studying a science so that I could perform successfully when I needed to.
Anyway, some thoughts from this video.

Fun at the Shuk
I met a nice lady on Facebook. She was really nice and had decided to come to Israel to live. She came by us for about two weeks until she could get settled. One of those days, we decided to go to the shuk together. The shuk is a location where many vendors put up tents and sell their wares. You can find vegetables, fruits, clothing, kitchen utensils, carpets, whatever there.
The really fun part is that just before the shuk closes, many vendors just either give away some fruits and vegetables or sell them at a really low prices because they don't want to carry them back --especially if they are almost going bad.
So, we waited til it was just before closing and headed there. What fun to see so many people, all hues, all ages, Jews, Arabs, everyone was there shopping and selling. It was also interesting to see this threesome of Ethiopian boys of about 11 or 10 years old -- somehow they always managed to be in the way and trucks had to honk at them or vendors shout at them- and off they went running to a different location in the shuk. We went to one vendor where there were two young arab guys -about 19 years old working there. One was sitting on the ground cutting fennel with a knife.
We came up to the young man and asked him if we could take the produce that's on the ground for free. He gave me a strange look and waved the knife at me saying "Hoova!"
We walked away thinking maybe he was hurling insults at us for being so bold as to ask for something for free.
Then we saw some other vendors and did the same thing, they said "yes!"
That was fun and funny. Fun because we were getting something for free; funny because I had never got down and picked food off the ground. where was my dignity??!! lol! Nevermind, it was free!!
Only later on, when I asked someone who knew Arabic, what "hoova" means, they told me it meant, "take" Oh man. I coulda had more free stuff.
Fun day anyway!

While I'm waiting to read Shek Anta Diop's book on Civilization (sister is reading it at the moment)...
I get so obsessed with things. I just sort of get locked on it until ---I don't know.
So right now, my big obsessions are:
Listening to Nigeria's Babatunde's drum music. Can't get enough of it. I just play it over and over and over. I suppose I'll keep playing it over until I can figure out what I like about it and what I want from it.
also like Mamady Keita's from ? Guinea drum music.
and finally, Oliver Mtukudzi from Zimbabwe.

I miss all the folks I used to virtually hang out with: Grata, Soila, Siditty, Classic -1, etc. I wonder how are they all doing? What's going on in their lives?

Warship Worries
Okay, for those keeping up, you know Iran sent some warships Israel's way. They didn't pass the suez canal yet. Egypt did its fancy footwork (saying to the media it will not allow this ship to pass. then quietly trying to let them pass).
Now American ships blocked up the Suez canal passage way.

So the former commented: "Why don't you tell him about the $100 million that the Spanish government is spending to develop a terror city right next door to us? Why don't you tell him to go see the project?" The driver replied: " My passenger speaks Hebrew, he loves Israel; he is opposed to this project.". I interjected in Spanish, then in Hebrew: " ""Maybe the Spanish government is paying for the project, but for sure the idea, the impetus for it, came straight from Rome, came from the Vatican. The Vatican, and particularly this pope are, big Jew haters, and will do everything he can to cause us harm any chance they get."

Rabbi Gershom Sizomu win a place in Uganda Parliament
Gershom Sizomu has had a wonderful five years—four spent enjoying the for-granted luxuries of Los Angeles and one indulging in the spiritual gravity of Jerusalem—and now he is set to return home to lead a small Jewish community in rural Uganda.
The final step in his preparation occurred Monday, May 19, when he was ordained a Conservative rabbi by the American Jewish University’s Ziegler School of Rabbinic Studies—the first black rabbi from sub-Saharan Africa, a teacher with a mission and a purpose etched deep into his soul. (you can read the rest at Jewish Journal).

"The Only Good Indian......."
Does anyone remember that horrible phrase? Do you remember the second half of that phrase? I think that phrase grew and has extended itself to other groups of people.
For example, I remember hearing a Jewish lady who lived in Germany most of her life. She would hear how many Germans would lament the holocaust, but upon listening to them more and more she realized, they could lament about the holocaust, they could appreciate the dead Jews, but to have one right next to them. Live!!! Living!! That was unwanted.
I think there is something like that for BF as well. Many love to take from black cultures, the clothing, the colors, the drums, the proverbs, the wisdoms, the ways, etc. And they are perfectly happy to tell you how deplorable the black populated country is, how poverty stricken it is, how there seems to be no hope and they're probably all dead as we speak kinda thing. But to have such people in their midst is an affront to their prestine selves.
Why am I so concerned about this right now?
I think part of it is because I become more and more myself, every new peel that I take out and expose the real me brings on a fresh wave of insecurity in me. A fresh wave of nerves and feelers detecting negation and invalidation. Its not a bad thing. I have to do it right. I have to acknowledge these feelers -which are like sign posts telling me where potential problems lay- and deal with them in a healthy way.
(to be sure, I want to add that djembe drum playing is not a Haitian culture thing, but drums is a very big part of the culture.)

Picture of the Day
Rest in peace, Ilan Halimi.
Everyone is nonchalant when a Jew dies or is hurt. They feel he deserved it because we are "oppressing" the Arabs. Yet, no one even bats an eye at the severity of the torturing that goes on before the killing. Why not just kill a quick kill? Why the gruesome torture beforehand? And the world revels in it because they do not speak out against it.

I have a friend who was diagnosed with cancer. She is trying to fight it with raw foods and other natural means. If she can beat it, it would be a victory for everyone to know that this is fightable without chemo, etc.
But she has lots of children and needs help. If anyone wants to donate and help the family out, please email me privately.
Thanks!
---Thank you, to the kind doctor who volunteered his service! Blessings to you!!

The Eternal Victim
There are many ways to express different types of joy. Gila, Rina, ditza, hedva, sasson and simcha. They each have different attributes. For example, rina means a great outburst of joy. Like when someone jumps up and says "hallelukah!!!" upon hearing some good news.
Hedva is an interesting type of joy. Its a very subtle the type of joy one gets in the midst of pain. Like when someone is suffereing, but they know something good will come of it, like childbirth. I wonder if people singing the blues tap into that hedva of their pain. Even intercourse can sometimes be painful and joyful....
That reminds me of Rob Base's song "Joy and Pain"
For people who are connected to yesod, i think its very easy to find this hedva joy in life sufferings. Its like being in a state of climax--and they may not want to come out of that!
And so the eternal victim is created. Don't take away her sorrows, its her joy. But logically, she can't say that she revels in her pain out loud; so instead she moans and complains and even shouts crying bitter tears, but just don't pull her away from her love, her joy, her hedva.
I wonder if its a perversion to want to stay in this constant state of climax? I wonder if she knew that other forms of joy --of pleasures- existed, would she want to stay in that constant state of victimhood?

Protesters chant outside as Werdesheim brothers plead not guilty to beating black teen - Baltimore Sun
Looks like there may be more to the story than the article puts out....stay tuned....
This is either real complicated or real easy.
(1) there are groups who really want a rift between black and Jews -more than that, they want/need Jews to look bad. So for them any story will be stretched, exaggerated, lied, etc. from different directions. We have to be mindful of that and get info while keeping our emotions in check
This group will write articles slandering and really stretching the wrongs that Jewish people do, especially if its Ashkenazi white Jews.
This group will also find Black converts, Black born Jews, Hispanics, etc and hammer into them the ills of the Ashkenazi Jew. They will feed on the feelings of helplessness and eternal victimhood and create a very angry, very emotional new Jew who is basically useless to the klal.
(2) We can't forget that there really is racism amongst us. Its REAL. So, its not fair to just sweep it all away and say "I know these ppl, they'd never do this!" maybe not to other Ashkenazi Jews who showed any sign of compassion towards "others"., but in the night, when nobody's looking -who knows what's in the hearts of man? and
(3) even if this kid WAS a criminal, if he wasn't caught doing an actual crime, then it still wasn't right to beat him like that.
(4) then there are the ones who want the Jews to look good no matter what. They will find no fault. This is like the NAACPs of the Jewish world --they will defend no matter what the crime is- they will defend the Jew regardless of whatever moral, legal, code was breached. Not helpful.

I mean, don' t Christians discourage their children from admiring secular ways? Don't Christians discourage their children from admiring other religions? Is it wrong to have a preference? Is it evil to dislike another's ways?
Okay, I don't agree with the beatings and the kickings. And, what? don't Hindus drink what he said they drink? (even in America, there are pharmaceuticals with compositions containing that stuff).
But what is the end goal of blind multiculturalism? Note: I didn't say multiculturalism, I said BLIND multiculturalism. And is "blind multiculturalism" just another way of saying the "west's ways"?
The reporter found it shocking that the teacher/imam was teaching the kids not to like how the British are walking in the streets, how they have their hair cuts. I don't even know what to think.
This is a VERY strange stance I'm taking. Maybe cuz its 2 am. Maybe in the morning, I'll rethink and delete this post lol.

**Update**** okay. I'm awake. There seems to be a fine line between discouraging a member of a religion from going to other religions or going in an ill advised direction vs disparaging and hating on the others. In the video above, especially in the part 2, is sure looks like they cross that line. Also, why live in a country that one despises so? I would think that as a guest in a country, one should have some display of respect for it. Why come and be on social welfare and spew hatred at the feeding hand?

Flashback Post: The Crown

.
Certain topics are hard to get out of my head. One concern is the issue of slavery that is still going on in places like Sudan. Why are Africans seen as slaves? Why do some AA have to struggle with the gravedigger stigma? What can I do about it?
Well, attempting some Jewish aiki-jujitsu on the topic (lol!)I am reminded that mankind began in Africa. The beginning. The foundation which means Yesod in Hebrew. This term or concept is flanked to the left and to the right by other concepts that must come into play in order for the foundation/Yesod to function properly. There are two "birds" that should be around making a home in order for the nest (foundation) to be complete. A sceptor and a sword is needed for the king's kingdom. Netzach and Hod. However way you can hear this.
Take a slave and a king, strip them of their dignity and their ability to reinforce any law they put down and you get: the slave remains a slave and the king becomes a slave. The difference between the two is the dignity and the ability to reinforce the law they put down.
To me, that explains why there is a constant back and forth between hearing BF being called "slave" vs them calling themselves or each other "kings and queens". And how shall the kings and queens resume their majestic roles? Personally, I think the world depends on it but I digress.
REGAINING THE CROWN
Firstly, it is important to note that this is not relative. This is not "in relation to another race" nor does it effect any others except for how they will view BW (or BF for that matter). This isn't about powering over anyone. Its about self empowerment. Self confidence. Truth. Godliness.
True Good is good all around.
So how does one regain one's honor? You forget about it.
"He who runs away from honor, honor chases after him."
Instead, focus on the two birdies...

THE FIRST BIRD: NETZACH AND THE SWORD
There is no place for laziness here. That has got to be chased away. Netzach is about being all over a concept, a topic, or a subject. Learning it from the ground up. Viewing it with different lenses until it is completely understood. Sleep it, eat it, drink it. Make it your new best friend.
I think BF and Jews are alot in common. But luckily for the Jews, there was the Torah to focus on in order to not be tainted by all the negativity that is looking for any opening to seep in and wreak havoc in a people.
So too, BF individually ought to have a main focus.
There is much talk about how BF are way too emotional, etc. Okay, it has its values, but whatever. In order to not invest too much emotions in the wrong avenues -and if there is so much emotions to go around-- so I say rechannel it. Channel it towards whatever wisdom you want to acquire.
Knowledge is something stored in the head.
The Arse!
Why is it that when some people talk they make reference to..**ahem** the arse? As if its a separate entity.
"Git your big a**** over here!!!"
LOL!
Is it a mere play on words? More not-so-subtle derogatory name calling?
Like I have said many times, I have a suspicion that BF represents the Yesod of Man -the ultimate man that encompasses all of mankind. Yesod is represented by the groin area in kabbalah. So, why don't folks refer to other folks by the front side? Why only the backside?
1) That would be way vulgar!
2) When God does not show favor to someone, it is said His Face is turned away. The Backside is shown.
The backside represents no grace, and no favors. Strict, exacting judgment is at hand. And kindness is nowhere to be found it seems. We, created in His Holy Image, if we see in others...a....backside, to the point of referring to one another as backsides, what "image of God" is our spiritual eyes seeing in each other? What image are we invoking in others?
The Backside.
Is that what we want? Yes, its colorful and funny, but is that what we want?
I submit that we find more encouraging references for each other. By filling ourselves (foundation/Yesod/groin area) with wisdoms and knowledge, we are in effect creating a whole being -an upright Man- rather than scattered parts of a person -some arse without a head or the rest of a body. Its almost as if there would be no need to divide between the upper part of the body and the lower part -both parts would have a bit of holiness.
Spiritually speaking, this makes me think of knowledge vs faith. As much as we are able to, we ought to apply science and math and history to understand the world, to understand God. Where we find borders (keter) -that is, areas that we just can't understand due to the limits of the science and math that we possess that day-- then, we rely on faith. But faith should not be a dirty thing. Nor should knowledge be viewed as an uppity thing. Somehow the two must come together in a round about swirl, one feeding the other, until slowly slowly that whole spirals of knowledge, faith, knowledge, faith leads us to know God, godliness, more completeness.THE SECOND BIRD: HOD AND THE SCEPTER
Hod represents humility, empathy, splendor. This side is about taking something and bringing a little umpf! into it. Like Michael Jordan did to basketball. Like Patricia Bath did to cataract removal operations. Or Norbert Rillieux and his invention of evaporators for refined sugars.
I don't think there is a big issue in the splendor department, but I DO think humility can be rectified.
Humility is not about walking with one's head down in shame. Its not even about downplaying one's abilities. Its about KNOWING one's ability and acknowledging that it is a gift from God (so there is no purpose to getting a big head about it nor looking down at another for not having the same gift) and it come with a function (that you have to figure out lol).
In Jewish teachings, Moses was the humblest man. With God's help, he took the Jewish people out of the 49th level of impurity, he yanked them right out of another nation that was happily enslaving them. He was a savior! Yet he was humble. According to the Bible, Miriam and Aaron spoke out against him, and yet he remained silent. According to the Oral Tradition, Moses's praises was sung in heavens, and again, he was silent. Neither one effected him -neither insult or praise went to his head. **sigh** I only wish I could do better...
But this is an ideal to come as close to as possible.
Empathy can also take us a long way. True we want to avoid pity parties, but a face of flint is not always called for either. At some point, "everyone needs a hand to hold onto.." as the song goes. Balance.
CONCLUSION
We have our own issues. Our own internal battles, our own external battles. It does not do us any good to keep investing ourselves in things that do not really help us grow, or that we have to pretend like we care about just to fit in somewhere. Once we stop looking to the right and to the left, and start looking straight at our true goals and ambitions and love suddenly our two tweeting birds will come to carry us to our throne. Cultivate these birds. Their strength is what will carry us to success!
Praise God.

Is Anyone Helping the Arab Countries?
.
its a bit painful to watch. In many countries the people revolt. They are fed up with the way things are. They fight. But the world gawks. No one comes to their aid. Not even the countries that would benefit if there was a democracy.
Its very hard. On the one hand, I understand. If any countries meddles in their affair, then it will turn into "my people against their people" sort of thing -especially if that countries is not Muslim. It would have to be done with real tact.
On the other hand, other interests groups are slowly taking over the people's protests. The Muslim Brotherhood is poised to take over Egypt. Who knows what's going on in Tunisia -they are still rioting everyone -just not so much reported.
Its painful to watch. I don't really know what ought to be done...

I ordered mine! The Exy part of the Bible by Kola Boof. (Please insert an S in front of Exy).
This is going to be my first novel in YEARS. I mean YEARS...even perhaps a decade. I don't really care for novels and the such. Plus, I'll have to hide the cover of the book from my husband heheh. wow. Honors to you, Kola, for getting my attention.

Attempt #2

In retaliation for the super bowl Pepsi commercial, the one that portrayed this angry black woman who just could not stop beating everyone around her, I wish I could produce a response video. A counter angry woman video.
I know the BW community is not big on coddling AT ALL. But all I"m asking is for some feedback. What do u think of this vid? What should be improved? I would like to add more frames where the African woman is opening the window --more frames to make it more cartoon motion-ish. What do u think?
Once I get the video visual parts right, A friend offered to do editing. Hopefully I can take her on that offer.
Please lemme know. What do you all think????

And last but not least, the Ayatolla returns to Iran! Hmm, just in time for Purim.

Pieces and Parts
.
There is a very interesting phenomenon that goes on in my life. Whenever I work on my book, or whenever I am trying to achieve something, I get this major depression that sets in. Its as if I have to cut through very thick air to accomplish something, or like I am going against something to accomplish what G-d willing, needs accomplishing.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I try not to get too angry, but when I unfortunately do, its interesting to note how I see things. I don't see the person I'm upset at, I don't even see a whole room. Somehow, my vision gets skewed and I only see parts. For example, if I'm really upset at someone, then I'll only see part of his lips, or a quarter of his face or something.
When I walk away from an argument, I see a piece of the doorway or part of a furniture. Its really strange. Its like if my vision has become really really narrow!!
Does anyone else go through that?
Why can't I handle seeing a whole thing?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When I get depressed, I see things in an even more narrow way. Any stimulation is too much stimulation. I don't want to see, I don't want to hear; my senses get deadened and all I want to do is hide under the covers and block out the world.
It gets to be too much to handle.
But why is it so hard to accomplish things? Why do I have to slice and dice thick air, lift up some heavy burden, why do all the stimuli become overwhelming?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There is a teaching in Breslov Judaism that when someone is depressed, their soul got attached to souls in hell. Its as if the person becomes a navy seal sent down to hell. Her mission: to rescue souls. There, souls are attracted to this person and attach themselves to her. She then has the task of lifting whoever can be lifted out of their misery. As she goes upwards and out of hell (i.e. as she struggles through her depression to accomplish things anyway), she is carrying a really heavy burden spiritually. No one wants to be left behind.
Eventually, she makes it out and the freed souls are disbursed. She is out of the depression.
If this is the case, then I wonder if I free some of those who wanted to do good but was too afraid -and died still afraid; some of those who wanted to create good, diverse, kosher childrens' books but didn't have the means. or the boldness; some of those who wanted to do good for humanity but was cut short, and/or whoever else meant to be freed....
Very good points. While I don't think Mubarak is the answer either (it may be good for Israel, but probably not for the people of Egypt). But allowing it to become Islamic authoritarian will not be good for any of the little people (Israel. Egyptian women, non-Muslims, etc)
Gratitude
Dear G-d, I praise Your Holy Name for Your Kindness is everlasting/ hodu l'hashem kitov, ki l'olam hasdo
I love being Jewish.
I love being Black.
I love being a woman.
Thank you, Hashem!!
And while I'm at it, thank you for the construction worker who, upon seeing my nervousness at his electrical chain saw on the ground, quick went and picked it up so I could pass with my kids.
And thank you for the bagger (normally, in Israel, people do their own bagging at the supermarkets) who bagged my stuff and brought it into the taxi for me.
And thank you for the kind clerk at the supermarket who was so modest, he hardly raised his head.
And thank you for the taxi driver who- even though he had a passenger already- didn't mind stopping for me and little Avi and all our groceries.
(And thank you for that patient passenger too!)
Thank you for the rain!!
Thank you!!!
And please have mercy on my friend and bless her with a refua shelayma/complete recovery from her illness, Refua l'kol! Amen.
I don't get it. What's she complaining about exactly? Illegal immigrants are smuggled into Israel, and the Israeli gov't turns the other way so that they can stay and work, etc. and the author is protesting for the Eritrians because what? What is the author saying exactly??
Godliness in Everything
excerpt from Lik. Moharan. lesson 17
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
And I believe, that only holy and righteous people can be trusted to speak of the goodness of Africa, of Africans, of things related to Black folks in general, in particular and in detail. Most other simply can't wrap their brains around it, don't want to, and refuse to. Why? What do they think they stand to lose in such an acknowledgement?
In Judaism, we are told to remember Amalek. Amalek is the grandson of Esau who had decided to kill the Jewish people. Jews stay vigil always and recite this passage once a year, to always remember Amalek. Many people say that Hitler and Germany was Amalek.
Well, since the Jewish people is seen as a microcosm of the rest of the world, it would stand to reason that there may be another "Amalek." One that is out to destroy the godliness that the rest of the world has as well.
Again, in Judaism there is the belief that the Jewish people is a microcosm of the rest of the world -with each part-general, in particular, and in the details of the particular --being respresented by something in rest of the world.
What part of Africa and 'all things Black folks oriented" is connected to what part of the Jewish people?
My suspicion is that it has something to do with the brit, yesod, Yosef, etc. to be continued..
It is impossible to receive fear and love except through the tzaddikim (Holy, righteous people) of the generation. This is because the tzaddik of the generation is the one who reveals the fear and the love.
For the tzaddik always seeks and searches for ways to reveal the will of the Holy One. For the Holy One's will is in everything. It is in the creation at large, namely, that the Holy One willed to creat ethe world generally; and it is in the particulars of creation. In each and every particular ting there is the Holy One's will--namely, that the Holy One willed this specific thing to be as it is, with its speci+fic form, strength and nature; -whereas something else has a different form, a different strength and a different nature and demeanor.
Now the tzaddik always seeks and searches for this will, to comprehend and understand the Holy One's will in each thing. such as: Why was it the Holy One's will that the lion be created with the specific strength and power, the specific form, and the specifi nature and demeanor that the lion has; whereas conversely, a small gnat is very weak and has a different nature, form and demeanor.
