Why Do Blacks Flock to Islam?
.
After the Christian Black Churches, the other place of worship where I see an overwhelming amount of African Americans are in Islam. Why not New Age? Why not Judaism? Why Islam? And why does Islam carry the cresent moon as its symbol? Why have African Americans begun to talk harshly to one another, almost crass? Where does black hatred comes from and what can be done about it.
I believe all these questions can be answered via Torah, Talmud, and the Holy Zohar. But rather than write a book as some suggested and also rather than leaving tidbits info on peoples comment section when such topic come up, I will first create a blog whereas I can brainstorm on the issue. I'll leave it open for comments but its not really meant to be a public blog, just NOTES.

In other news...
In the recent Economist magazine, I read that last year Abu Yahye Al-Libi, a prominent al -Qaeda leader, gave six tips to wage ideological warfare. But I can't seem to find that video. Does anyone know of this?

Congratulations on starting your next blog!!
I am sure it will be a fantastic place for lively discussion!
Blogging is extremely time-consuming and I respect those bloggers like you who write thoughtful material AND CONTRIBUTE to the dialogue at other blogs! Wow, that takes some perseverence!
I'm trying to keep up! (smile)
Peace, blessings and DUNAMIS!

Hi Lisa,
I'm not hoping for a lively discussion! lol
I am just jotting down thoughts and ideas and seeing where they go.
You know, I believe that we're kindred souls. I been wondering the same thing.
I think that the original appeal among blacks here in the US is that many believed that Christianity is the religion of whites, and that the teachings of same did not save them from slavery, segregation, and racism.
I'm told that blacks were enticed to the religion early on because they were told that Islam was the religion of Africa, and that they would be getting back to their true, religious roots.
Also, I believe that many enjoy the idea of embracing a religion that seems foreign and exotic.
Still others probably accepted it, because they would accept any religion that they believe would incense whites.
And others may do it because it resonates with their concept of what a religion should be, with clear guidelines (Seven pillars of Islam), and assurances of achieving whatever they hope to achieve in the afterlife.
And then again I could be wrong on all counts.
I will ask.
hi Domino,
I am attempting to answer it on the Notes blog. But the short answer is Islam and black folks come from the same root..
I've read articles that stated that black men convert to Islam in prison because it give them an order and calm that they are lacking in their lives.
Domino,
I have to agree. I guess I am searching a bit deeper. Like if its the religion of Africa -why?
Geekgirl,
Welcome!
Yes, you are correct. I am just searching for a more global, deeper answer.
Miriam, I'm not sure if this is the kind of information you're looking for, but here goes:
BBC: The Story of Africa: Islam
Another brief article:
Islam in Africa
I did ask, and received some insight into why blacks and others are converting in such large numbers to Islam today.
It's a broad, general answer, but I believe that it's right on target.
Let me know, if you'd like the answer.
Namaste
Miriam, I'm beginning to think that your search goes beyond the history of Islam in Africa, and that you're probing to understanding what's in the black/African mindset, psyche, culture, experience, that makes them predisposed and open to Islam as an alternative to Christianity and other religions.
Good luck with your search.
Namaste
Domino,
Yes, I would be interested in the answer. I am working on the info that I've gathered myself on the Notes blog. Please feel free to have a look.
I am worried it may not be understandable, but still please.
If its really long...hm Can you post it here? Should you email it? However you can, I'm interested. Thanks so much!
"they were told that Islam was the religion of Africa"
There is truth to that assumption.
Keep in mind that Judaism, unlike Islam or Christianity, doesn't proselytize.

This is true.
However, do people just take what's fed to them? Don't they ever delve deeper and keep searching? or perhaps it fits so well, there is no need?
First of all, I think the vast majority of people in the world do take what's fed to them.
Second, many African Americans have been attracted to Judaism in one form or another. Furthermore, some other religions practiced by black people (like Rastafari) have incorporated strong Jewish elements. That there have been a relatively small number of actual black converts to mainstream Judaism probably has more to do with Judaism's lack of proselytizing than with black people's lack of interest. Not only do we discourage conversion, we don't widely circulate information about Judaism to the masses, and without that information, most people are far less likely to look into it.
