Perhaps I don't pay enough attention to the news, but this seemed like a rare event.
Story.
What happened to the value of HUMAN LIVES??
I hate to say this but aside from the terrorists, Israel is pretty great place - I don't want that to change. Haters must be stopped.
Its quite strange that this incident should happen. With all the talk of rebuilding the temple that's flying around, the whole reason the temple was destroyed -the inner reason, I mean- was because each fellow had baseless hatred towards the other one. (They did not share what they'd learned, each tried to out do the other, they did not rebuke the other when they saw them doing wrong, etc). And now this...
Re: Gays. I don't really have an opinion on what I think about gay or lesbian things. Do I need an opinion for everything?

@Miriam: "Do I need an opinion for everything?"
No you don't. But bear with me: Here's my thinking on the subject.
Gays have existed throughout history and in every part of the world. I suspect that there are gay Eskimos.
In some cultures, gays are esteemed, and pilloried in others. In Iran and Iraq they're killed and persecuted.
The link is to the Atlantic Free Press, and with most Internet news outlets, they're agenda driven, but in this case their account of how these two countries treat gays is probably right on the money.
Under Hitler gays weren't treated any better, although lesbians less so.
Along with many others, gays, too, have the dubious distinction of being "Holocaust victim."
In the world of relativity most things have a counterpart. We have up/down, male/female, black/white (and all the shades in between), truth/lie, spiritual/material, and yes, homosexual, and heterosexual, and God/Devil.
And even the right/left dyads have been subject to judgment. Orthodox is good, unorthodox is bad. Those that are left-handed are suspect, while right-handed folks are deemed more trustworthy.
And we have Jesus saying: "But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth...," also acknowledging this human tendency.
For one thing to exist, its counterpart must also exist, or its nature can't be appreciated and understood.
For example: gays and lesbians makes us keenly aware of our "straightness" and vice versa.
This is how our world was structured--to be a kind of mirror image of itself (where our right becomes our left upon the reflective surface, and our left our right).
And we have assigned values, and judgments to these dyads, these reflective images, so that black is bad, and white is good, female is bad, and male is good, up is good and down is bad (Hell is down, and Heaven is up.), truth is good and the lie bad, spirituality is good and materiality is bad, heterosexuality is good, and homosexuality is bad, and the greatest good/bad combination, God is good and the Devil is bad.
Of course, to make my point, I offer the grossest of judgments, rather than try to navigate the subtleties that exist.
This is what we've done: We've decided to divide up our world and see it through the lens of separation and judgment.
Here's the truth: All things are One Thing.
But the human mind is determined to make All Things several things, and that is the nub of our blessing and our curse, another dyad that should be seen as One.

That's it in a nutshell. Being in this world of divisions, people see parts, but its truly all one.
I agree pretty much w/all you wrote. Except I wouldn't put devil as a flip side to God. Maybe as a flipside to an angel, but not to God.
Also, there is an interesting concept that illicit activity ranks higher than a bored, bland person being with his straight spouse or doing some good deed in a nonchalant way.
Why? Because in the first example, the person is putting is very will, even more than his will, his true self, the godly part of himself in the act -even though its wrong.
What can rise higher than that, is doing the legal, proper activities -- but putting all of one's will and godly part and all the zeal into something goodly. I.e. doing good with the zeal of something doing bad. LOL!
@Miriam: "I agree pretty much w/all you wrote. Except I wouldn't put devil as a flip side to God. Maybe as a flipside to an angel, but not to God."
Thats okay. I understand your reasons. I used the conventional understanding of the two concepts, God being the personification of good, and the Devil, the personification of evil.
Even the word Devil has within it the word "evil.
Having its origin in Greek, it originally meant "to slander" or "to hurt."
Hence, the Devil is the one that speaks an untruth to hurt another.
For humankind the Devil represents that lie.
And what is that lie? You were not made in the "image and likeness" of your creator.
I thought since I was going to respond, I may as well use the opportunity to share more.
Doing bad in a good way is better than doing good badly.
If I'm following you, that is funny.
Thanks, Miriam.
Well, Miriam, it seems to me you clearly do have an opinion. You don't think gay people should be murdered. It may seem a trivial point, but there are quite a few people out there who would disagree with you.
Kylopod - What I meant was that I don't feel strongly about their lifestyle -neither to condemn nor to praise.
True, I did do my part to protest their marching in J'lem.
But nothing personal against them themselves.
I don't think most gay rights activists either "praise" or "condemn" the gay "lifestyle." Their basic message is that gays should be free to live how they wish, without discrimination or oppression.
Kylopod - I see. Okay, that's how much I know on the topic. Okay, I guess that's where I am.
