I hope to blog more about situations in the BC, but instead of just analysing things, I really want to come up with possible solutions. I don't expect it to be followed, but for the sake of my own intellectual playfulness, I want to muse on that.
I think that way, it will make things easier to blog. This was inspired by the BWV Podcast with Cynthia Mckinney!

One Possible Solution:
Very often the BC suffers things that -if you really look carefully- other groups are suffering from too. I think it behooves us to run our own research, surveys, and studies even at an amature level if needs be, to gather our own first hand data. And to form a separate branch of coalition to team up with the most prominent other group that's struggling with the same thing. Note: I said a separate coalition. There should always be the "mother group" that is strictly for the benefit of BW & their children.
My question to my own possible solution: Does this method work for all problems, or is it best used on certain issues such as legal, media, etc???

What groups did you have in mind?
Hi C-1,
I almost fainted to see you posting here. lol.
I mean any. Like for instance, say the BC is having media image problems. Too much negative portrayals going on, if they had a branch that could team up with (just inventing things here) the handicap who feels they get a bad rap too -but they are more influential in effecting change- then we should make a coalition with them.
And when it comes to something else, such as say, not enough medical research being done for their 'typical' illnesses, perhaps (this is all hypothetical) joining forces with African Doctors Organization who are in need of funding -and fund them- can be a solution. Or perhaps joining with a feminist movement that's asking for more research done on their behalf.
What do you think?
I think one of the issues that face a solution like this is the question of What exactly is the Black Community?
For example,
1) How is the Black Community defined and who defines it?
2) How do you defined acceptable and unacceptable black behavior?
3) How do you deal with people who are detriments to the black community?
4) Is it really a community if people don't even live in the same area? I.e. community generally being people who have some geographical connection.
5) What are the EXACT goals that the black community is striving for? Are these goals goals for every person who is supposibly black?
With a clear definition of what exactly makes up the black community it is hard to solve problems, that may be a problem for some and not a problem for others. For example, media image is only a problem for people who rely on the media to define who they are. A person who lives in a community with a clear cut definition of who they are as individuals and a group, normally doesn't need the media to portray them either negative or positive.
It is similar to that scene in Do The Right Thing where the Italian guys goes on of how he hates black people. When asked who his favorite sports and entertainment people were he says Michael Jordon, Michael Jackson, etc. Spike Lee's character says, All these people are black! The Italian guy in all seriousness says, No their not! In his mind his favorite sports and entertainers did not reflect what he hated about black people. I.e. to him those people were not black. Something in their actions, and their success caused the guy to see them as something different.
Just some thoughts.
