Nurturing Women

.
I just went to a whole day conference with INA MAY GASKIN!! Needless to say, I was excited when I heard she was coming to Israel. Since it was last minute, I wondered if I could use my charity money to go, if I could take my kids. So I just got a ride and went and hoped for the best.

Praise God, everything worked out.

They had a special section out there for nursing mothers and mothers with small children. It was a grassy area and had a loud speaker where one could hear Ina May as she spoke. So the kids and I could sit out on our blanket and much as we listened.

At first I thought to just sit out there without paying. But then my guilty conscious got the better of me. So, I hauled the kids into the YMCA -where the conference was being held- to asked where to pay. A lady out of the blue said there was an extra spot from her group and so I could join by signing my name and I wouldn't have to pay. Yay!! I did donate to her organization -charity money.

It was such a pleasant day! There is something about women who are very into natural things. Healthy eating, un-intervention childbirth by midwives, etc. Some how they seem so much more relaxed than very city-fied people. There was less hang ups.

After walking back and forth to take the kids to the bathroom, then to get something to eat, then to play in the grass for a bit, then to get my recorder. I was pooped. So I sat on a stairway. Suddenly other mothers came and sat around me with their babies. So easy and relaxed the people were. Then the kids all started interacting and playing.

There is definitely a different air about folks who are "natural". Oh! I even saw another interracial couple. lol. She averted her eyes from me. I hope she didn't think I was misjudging her. My husband was not with me so I guess she couldn't know that I was in the same boat with her and that I didn't frown upon her relationship.

Thank you, Ina May, for the conference and all the folks who put it together.

I'm glad, everything worked out for you. Do you have three children now? A boy and twin girls, I wish my mother was still alive, she would know all about what they would use in Guyana.

With me, however when I give birth to my children, they will have to be C-section, because my cervix was shortened. Queen Elizabeth II, who is 82, she was born by C-section.

That sounds very relaxing...

I noticed other black women who are part of an interracial couple avert their eyes too, even when I'm with my hubby. I always smile but sometimes I don't get that back, oh well, I'm gonna be me.

How wonderful that you were able to attend and had such a lovely time.

Too bad that the woman from the couple averted her eyes. I'm sure she'll think about your smile later and wonder why in the world she did that!

Hi Miriam,

I reallly enjoy your blog. I have really learned more about the Jewish faith through your blog. I can remember learning about the different types of Judaism in your earlier blogs. I remember the differences between Yiddish and Ladino. Keep up the good work.

I really enjoyed this post, and the previous video created by Ricki Lake. It was very informative. I did not know that so many c-sections were being performed, and that so few doctors have witnessed natural births. I thought most people were having natural births. Well, maybe I should I not comment as I have never been pregnant. I have not been keeping up with your blogs so regularly lately, so maybe my being drawn to your post on childbirth is a sign. I hope so. You see I have been divorced for 11years, and had hoped to be married again with a family by now. So far that has not happened. I fear that time is running out for as I am now 45. I have decided to enter into fasting so that God will see my earnest desire and perhaps grant it. I am not Jewish, but perhaps you can pray for me in this matter. I know that I have a blessed life, but sometimes it seems as if I am missing out on something very special and important by not being a wife and mother. So, if you could say a prayer for me. Oh! As I said I am not Jewish, but I did go out on a couple dates with a nice Jewish guy (LOL). Maybe that will help. Just joking. Remember me in your prayers, and I will remember you.

Loving,

Felicity - I don't mind a C-section when its truly called for. I just want to know my options.

Tania - I wonder why? I suspect they fear resentment.

Liz - I hope so. Hopefully, good will come out of this in that she will smile to someone else in an attempt to compensate for not smile this time.

Keep praying, Clap and be joyful when you pray. Cry and be sincere when you pray. Make positive meaningful efforts towards your goal, and have the right frame of mind. I am sure you will achieve. I will pray for you.

If you want to you can leave me your name via email in the format of :
