Questioning, Confronting, And Fighting

This post will not have an ending. I hope you, readers, will fill me in. Please!

There are different ways of dialoging with BF. I have seen the snap, neck twisting, quick talking, rhyme making, cliche way of putting someone down. I have witnessed the "think you white" intellectual discussion. I have heard the inbetween: the intellectually said, quick talk rhyme making (internal neck twisting and snap).

Sometimes, I notice with folks, If I ask something most politely, I don't get answered. If I come on in a confrontational way, we engage! But most times I really don't like to fight. Especially, if I am hoping for a commeradie type relationship.

What's the answer? What's the way to talk in the BC?

Is the Messiah Coming??

Can it be? Disney is in the making of a movie with a black character! And she's not a cat, nor a dog, nor a mouse or anything such thing. She's human?! Great signs and wonders in the world? Maybe the Messiah is coming soon.... LOL

A Tip for A Tip?

Tip for Tip?

Tip: A great tip for entertaining kids and leading them towards proper behavior. If you are having a family meal. Have a box full of little notes of praises that each one did. Its funner to fold the little notes. Then as you unravel them and read out, "Jimmy put ALL HIS TOYS AWAY TODAY!!!! YAY!!!!" Watch his face light up!!!

I personally throw in a few notes for hubby too!

Tip? Can someone tell me, are men truly clueless about women and women's emotional needs?

Thank you.

Hooray for Citoya!

There was one bold resident at Dunbar Village, a housing project in Florida, who dared to try to make a difference. The place is loaded with crime, including the horrific incident with the Haitian woman and her son. You can keep up to date from the blog Dunbar Village 2008 run by Symphony from Essential Presence.

Al Sharpton promised to come by and bring publicity and clout to the matter, but at the last minute did not. There was no help forthcoming. The one resident, Citoya who made so much effort to fight for change in her community was left alone. With all criminals who are still loose aware of her attempts at change. It was very dangerous for her to stay for even one more minute.

Praise God, all the women at Black Women Vote! led by SheCodes made an effort on her behalf. Money was donated, calls were made, notices were put out on blogs. Here is the rest (the following is a cut and paste right from Black Women Vote!):

Citoya is all packed and ready to leave Dunbar Village. She is currently negotiating for a lease in a two bedroom apt in a safer area in West Palm Beach. But here is the great news:

Habitat for Humanity has expressed serious interest in building a brand new home for Citoya, within the next couple of months.

Wow! A brand new house is something that I had not even dreamed possible... thank you to blkSeagoat for brainstorming and getting that ball rolling!

Message from Citoya:

Hello Everyone,

I would like to thank everybody for their support, and all of the encouraging emails. I'm moving forward with the process to get my own home built. I am also talking with a local landlord to get a short term lease to live in the meantime.

Thank you SO MUCH and God bless you all!

Citoya

Citoya has expressed her continued commitment to working for social justice and safety in neighborhoods like Dunbar Village -- no matter where she lives. So now the ball is now in Citoya's court; she has enough leads to start a brand new chapter of her life.

She is also leaving Dunbar Village better than how she found it. Her efforts, combined with the help of several bloggers, has raised the awareness level that was necessary to begin to cut through the stubborn gridlock, red tape, and governmental malaise. The residents now have a police officer who walks through the complex, and video cameras in the hallways.

ITS A SIGN?

This is a wonderful example of what can be done when there is unity. Shecodes said it best:

"We definitely do NOT need to be a monolith to create monolithic changes for black women!"

Beginners luck, some may say as they wait for the other shoe to drop. However, the way I see it. Beginners luck is a way that God has of showing you, look at what you can do! Now fly! And then, the crunch work starts. We have to have perseverence, determination, and inspiration to keep pushing forward. We must not get lax from the initial ease of success.

God willing it should always be this easy!!!

Days at The Phone Company

.
.

Mes Deux Cents posed a question about her phone bill on her blog and it reminded me of the days when I worked for the phone company. Did anyone out there work for a phone company???

Did anyone work at 411? The speed at which we were expected to respond was insane. But if we didn't do it, we were 'called in' by the supervisor for a 'talk'.

(Funny. Now when I tell my husband I just want to have a "talk" with him, he shivers thinking that all his sins will come back to haunt him and that he will feel two inches tall when its all over. I should take this past experience at 411 to go easy on him! lol)

And all those prison calls. Ugh! These lonely prisoners would call hoping for some outside contact. I guess 411 was free for them. My typical question was, "so what are you in for?" The answers would freak me and i'd find an excuse to 'accidently' hang up.

As time went on, I really wanted to do good at the job and could not afford to fuss with every boy who wanted "the pizza place by my granma's" with no address and no name, save his 'granma's' name.

Thus, if some caller called in to know what time it was, I'd say, "thank you for calling and here's the number for time..." Off they went into the machine to receive their number.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Eventually, I moved onto customer service. That was a whole new ball game. There I was expected to solve customer problems, transfer them to the right place if needs be, and /or sell products and services. I was a pretty good sales person, if I do say so myself.
But the environment was slowly turning me off. The amount of rogue pay phone companies who would charge such exhorbitant prices for collect calls reeked havoc on peoples' bills. The amounts of 1-800 numbers that then transfered you to a 1-900 number also did a number on peoples bills. There were so many cut-throat companies out there.
The saddest part was running a credit check on folks who wanted caller ID, voice mail, two new phones, etc etc etc when I could see they won't be paying their bills in any near future -but they wanted to have what everyone else had.
Anyways, it was definitely an interesting, fast pace industry.
Fun days...
A Bit of Knowledge
There is this mysterious group of people, who I never knew much about. They are called Druze. All I knew about them was that they are not Arab, although they looked Arabic and they were not Israelis. They are loyal to whatever government of the country they end up in (they are/were? nomadic), and one of their prophets is Job.
Well thanks to Wikipedia, again, I have learned why they are so secretive. Do to so much persecution, they closed off entry of converts and for the sake of not arousing enemies since they are so few in number.
I also didn't know radio announcer, Cassy Kassem, is a Druze!
